8 things I did this week...

  • Re-entered the product design and small startup world by joining TripIt.
  • Had a pretty massive bike accident by sliding on my side through a puddle of gasoline on the road. I stopped just short of an intersection. I’m okay but am fairly sore.
  • Watched my cat pee for a few minutes on a pile of my nice clothing. At least my diesel jeans weren’t in the pile, but still…
  • Began to crave to do more design and sketching outside of work. Anything that’s expressive and me.
  • Read about Buddhism and autism in the same week. They’re somehow related, but I’m not sure how.
  • Had a heart to heart with mom about the future.
  • Convinced a waitress at my favorite restaurant to serve me my favorite pizza (that’s technically off the menu)
  • Highlight: jumped off a rock with my niece over and over again in the southern heat.

In the latest Monocle Alain de Botton talks about urban development in London. Although the conversation is about London, the topics are about architecture, carpentry, star-chitecture and general design. His new book sounds fascinating. “Here’s another question I was recently asked: when I see words in my mind, what font are they in? The answer: Helvetica. What font do you think in? It’s a strange question, but you know what I’m getting at: how do you see actual words in your head as you think? Or do you see words at all? Is it a voice in your head? Do you see subtitles?” (Douglas Coupland in Visual Thinking | Granta 101 | Magazine | Granta via shoepal.com) “Here’s another question I was recently asked: when I see words in my mind, what font are they in?
